Endodontics is the name given to the area of dentistry dedicated to the study of the interior of the tooth.
This means that endodontics mostly addresses issues with what we often refer to as the ‘dental pulp’.
When this ‘pulp’ becomes infected, we must investigate and remove any infection present to preserve and maintain the health of the rest of the tooth. This is often done through a root canal treatment, which we can perform here at the practice.
Other endodontic treatments we can provide here at the practice include re-root canal treatments and apicectomies. An apicectomy is carried out when infection is found at the very tip of the tooth’s root. Most patients who need an apicectomy will have already received a root canal treatment, and the treatment is similar although slightly more complex.
If we think either an apicectomy or re-root canal treatment is necessary, we will of course talk through all your options with you.
